When Texas-based journalist Tim Madigan first interviewed beloved children's TV star Fred Rogers for his paper many years ago, it was the beginning of a long friendship and an extensive correspondence. Rogers was a nurturing soul, in life as on his popular show, and his counsel helped Madigan weather some tough times of despair and family tragedy. Now Madigan is putting it all into a Rogers memoir called I'm Proud of You, and in a recent auction run by Coast agent B.J. Robbins, Erin Moore and Bill Shinker at Gotham Books emerged the winners for world rights. Some of Madigan's royalties will go to Rogers's nonprofit foundation, Family Communications.
