Library Journal executive editor Brian Kenney has been named editor-in-chief of School Library Journal. Kenney succeeds Evan St. Lifer, who recently left for a top post at Scholastic.

At LJ, Kenney oversaw coverage of technology and the Web. He joined the magazine in 2001, and reshaped netConnect, LJ's quarterly technology supplement, and also edited the annual Movers & Shakers supplement. He also launched LJ's Best-Seller List of most borrowed library books—an industry first.

He was instrumental in a makeover of the Queens Public Library, encouraging donations of furniture and technology equipment in support of the Library by Design project, which will be chronicled in a print supplement about the project in the September 15 issue of LJ.

A former manager of Central Library at the Brooklyn Public Library, Kenney was responsible for developing the new building plan there and served as project manager for construction of a large youth wing. He will start his job at SLJ this week.
