Sales were off in the three main adult trade segments in April, with the 15.2% decline in the mass market paperback segment the biggest drop among all segments, according to the AAP's monthly sales estimates. Sales in both children's segments, however, rose by more than 20%. The professional publishing category also had a solid gain in April, helping to lift year-to-date sales to 4.8%. With sales up 20%, the children's hardcover category had the largest gain in the January to April period.
