CATEGORY % CHANGE JANUARY
(Measured in $ sales against same time periods, 2007)* Number of reporting companies.
Despite complaints from retailers that sales slowed noticeably in January, all but one of AAP's trade segments show gains in the month, with the adult trade paperback segment (helped no doubt by shipments of the Oprah selection A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle) performing exceptionally well. The number of reporting publishers in the elhi segment shrank from nine to eight due to the integration of Harcourt into Houghton Mifflin, with HM now reporting sales for the combined companies.
