Vicky Myron's very enjoyable new biography, Dewey: The Small-Town Library Cat Who Touched the World [Grand Central, Sept.] introduces a cat named Dewey Readmore Books. Anyone who is a fan of memoirs, felines, history or simply a good story will enjoy this book. It's amazing how a tiny kitten, abandoned at the Spencer Public Library's book drop on a frigid winter day in 1988, could bring care and compassion to so many people. Myron, who worked at that library for 25 years, writes with warmth and humor about Dewey's interactions with all sorts of people within his library. I am lucky enough to be a resident of that corner of the state, and actually knew of that library and Dewey. Even though Dewey is gone, Myron's wonderful book will allow people to meet him and the people who cherished him.
