Most noteworthy among February’s international bestseller lists was the prevalence of new fiction titles in Germany, the Netherlands, and Spain.

The top five spots on Germany’s fiction list were new, including P.C. Cast and Kristin Cast’s Hunted, the fifth installment of the authors’ House of Night vampire series; The Innocent Bone by American author Cody McFadyen, who is published by Bantam in the U.S.; and Among the Shades of the Kauri by Sarah Lark, one of the pseudonyms German author Christiane Grohl uses.

In the Netherlands, Herman Koch’s new thriller, Summer House with Pool, debuted at #1. American Kim Edwards’s The Memory Keeper’s Daughter, which Viking published in the U.S. in 2005, landed in the #4 spot. And Stephen King’s Blockade Billy, a 2010 Scribner hardcover in the U.S., came in at the #20 spot of the combined fiction and nonfiction list.

Spanish journalist Javier Sierra held the #1 position in his native country with The Lost Angel. Other new books on Spain’s fiction list included Haruki Murakami’s 1Q84, an ode to George Orwell’s 1984, which Knopf will release in the U.S. in October; Carolina Falls in Love by Italian YA author Federico Moccia; Eloy Moreno’s originally self-published The Green Gel Pen; and Manuel Vincent’s Aguirre, the Magnificent.
