Rick Hallock worked as a successful software entrepreneur for years until federal agents knocked down his door, took his computer equipment, software, and disk drives, and accused him of distributing child pornography. It became very clear very quickly that he had nothing to do with the crime and that he was the victim of identity theft. But that didn't stop him from losing his business, his reputation, and all of his money. Despite Hallock's efforts over the course of years, the government refused to return his personal property. When his computer equipment finally was returned, all of the data had been removed. Hallock tells a shocking and engaging story here, but unfortunately he tells it poorly. He reiterates the same points again and again, rather than presenting a clear narrative. At times, this reiteration even serves to confuse the reader about the facts of the case. While his final theory%E2%80%94that government agents conspired to steal his identity initially and then committed crimes themselves%E2%80%94is interesting and well presented, and while what happened to him is truly terrible, his narrative will likely frustrate readers more than engage them.
