Breath of Malice

Karen Fenech. Amazon/Montlake Romance, $12.95 trade paper (267p) ISBN 978-1-5039-5075-7

An FBI agent must learn to survive being hunted by a serial killer in Fenech’s latest novel of intense romantic suspense. FBI Special Agent Paige Carson failed to apprehend serial killer Todd Thames in the Adirondack Mountains of New York, and her inaction almost cost her life. When Thames starts sending postcards to her in New York and later tracks her to Denver, she decides to transfer to South Carolina. Paige hopes that Thames can’t find her there, especially after his conviction is overturned on appeal. As Paige and her younger sister, Ivy, become accustomed to Kirk County, Paige begins to trust her supervisor, Sam McKade. Eventually the two give in to their mutual attraction. When there is a murder in a nearby park, Paige is convinced that Thames is behind the killing, and her feelings of guilt soon turn into determination to catch him this time. Readers will admire Paige for her strength in the face of adversity. The constant suspense and sizzling sex keep the pages turning, but it is somewhat difficult to believe that a high-ranking special agent would become openly involved with one of his direct reports.
