George Edward Stanley, author of more than 100 books for young people, died on Monday, February 7, after a ruptured aneurysm; he was 68. After writing and publishing over 200 short stories in American, British, Irish, and South African magazines, Stanley turned to writing books. He was professor of African and Middle-Eastern Languages and Linguistics in the department of foreign languages at Cameron University in Lawton, Okla., and had taught adults to write since 1965.
Stanley’s longtime agent, Susan Cohen of Writers House, said, “George was the most positive person I know in publishing. He truly loved the whole endeavor: writing, researching, being edited—and getting paid to do what he loved. He was relentlessly energetic, creative and gracious. He will be much missed.”
