Librarians, publishers, and authors braved the heat and crowds to attend ALA's annual conference, held late last month in Washington, D.C. Numerous authors and illustrators mingled with librarians and signed copies of their books. The Newbery-Caldecott banquet bestowed the industry's top honors to this year's winners, Rebecca Stead and Jerry Pinkney, as well as the Honorees. Among the events of the weekend were presentations by children's book authors, including John Grisham, David Small, and Sarah Ferguson.
