Regnery Publishing will launch a children’s imprint this summer. Little Patriot Press will publish titles for children aged 5-8 that will be aimed at “teaching and inspiring children through stories about American history and government,” according to the company.

Marji Ross, president and publisher of Regnery, said that the success Regnery had with Callista Gingrich's children's book, Sweet Land of Liberty, gave her the confidence to establish a children's imprint. She was further encouraged, she said, when she found that the market for history picture books aimed at the K-4 market seemed "underserved." Regnery will release seven picture books this year, including a series by Peter and Cheryl Barnes that feature different mice explaining important moments in history. Two titles in the line, Woodrow for President: A Tail of Voting, Campaigns, and Elections and Liberty Lee’s Tail of Independence, will be featured at June's BookExpo America. Other titles include a second book from Gingrich.

Diane Reeves is the managing editor for Little Patriot Press and Cheryl Barnes is serving as creative director. Regnery will do e-books for all titles and expects to have the littlepatriotpress.com Web site up before BEA. Ross said she expects to do six to eight Little Patriot Press books annually.
