Sarah Smith has joined Amazon as editorial director for print and Kindle books.

Although Smith was most recently a lecturer for Johns Hopkins University’s writing seminars program, she has also served in a number of capacities at the New York Times. Before joining Johns Hopkins, Smith was children’s books editor at the New York Times Book Review, managing editor of the NYT Magazine, and an editor and writer for the paper’s Metropolitan section.

At Amazon, Smith will lead the books editorial team, and will oversee the book reviews on Amazon.com and the Amazon Book Review blog. According to Amazon, Smith “will be responsible for the end-to-end editorial vision for Amazon.com Books/Kindle and the production, curation, and delivery of the Amazon Book Review as well as other editorial programs and partnerships."
