The Business Manager oversees the day-to-day operations and directs the overall work of the administrative functions of MD Conference Express’ Boston/Woburn office of SAGE Publications. This position reports directly to the President, MD Conference Express.
The role oversees the activities of company employees and ensures that they have the resources and equipment to complete their work. The business manager hires, trains and evaluates new employees (in collaboration with department managers); and ensures that the company is on track to meet its financial goals. The Business Manager supports the development, and leads the execution of company budgets, working closely with the President and with senior executives at other SAGE offices.
This role prepares reports for the President and ensures that all departments comply with company policies, and are laser focused on aggressive growth and development targets. The Business Manager assesses the performance of the different departments and the company against the business’s goals and plans. This role is expected to proactively reach out, and correct, issues or challenges impeding the company from obtaining its objectives. When the President is traveling, the Business Manager ensures that day-to-day operations continue to flow smoothly.
This role has direct reports, and is indirectly responsible for ensuring that human resource activities take place in a timely and efficient manner. These responsibilities include crisis management, active leadership to motivate employees and ensure their ongoing productivity and engagement, conflict resolution, conducting performance evaluations for direct reports, and ensuring that department heads complete their teams’ performance evaluations on time and in compliance with SAGE policy. The Business Manager coordinates with Human Resources and with department heads regarding hiring and progressive discipline for employees in their department. In tandem with performance evaluations, the Business Manager creates and implements plans to motivate and develop workers. This role also works with employees who need additional help, motivation, or guidance to maximize performance.
SAGE Publications is an international, multi-office company. The Business Manager will need excellent people skills, diplomacy, and tact in order to gather information, motivate cooperation, and ensure execution of business plans that require the support and collaboration of teams and individuals in other offices (who do not report to the Business Manager, and may run large teams of their own). The Business Manager will be held to a high standard of integrity and performance. This role may be called upon to give business and financial presentations to senior SAGE executives.
Other related responsibilities include developing professional relationships with individuals outside the company, and continually striving to improve the operations and efficiencies of the Boston/Woburn office.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION
Any combination equivalent to, but not limited to, the following:
•Masters Degree in Business Administration preferred
