Are you a successful higher education acquisitions editor or publishing senior sales rep who wants to join a proven team that is revolutionizing the way professors develop content for their courses? Although we’re primarily looking to fill a newly vacant territory stretching from Southern CA eastward through Texas, we will consider candidates in practically any sizeable, currently unfilled college-clustered region. Any candidates must be extremely sharp and driven with a “fire-in-the-belly” to succeed. It is possible that the position could be worked out of our San Diego home office as well, with appropriate territory travel.

• Los Angeles, CA area, or
• Dallas or Austin, TX area

Position Summary:
As a Field Acquisitions Editor, you will primarily acquire new titles and authors/editors to meet and exceed your assigned territory sales goals. You will manage all phases of the initial contact with the authors, including conceptualizing the projects, negotiating the contracts, and maintaining the relationship. You will work the road, phones, and e-mails hard. We sign at a much faster pace than traditional editors, so you must love working in a fast, goal-oriented environment.

We are looking for candidates who:
• Are smart, educated, and can intellectually engage a professor and author. You must have a natural curiosity to learn and ultimately be recognized as an “equal” by your authors.
• Are driven, competitive, and tenacious with high energy. You must always be striving to come in first place. You should have a proven track record of consistently exceeding your assigned goals.
• Have excellent sales and customer service skills, including cold calling, networking, relationship-building, conducting small-group presentations and meetings, and closing new business.
• Have an ability to build a strong rapport, overcome objections and persuade.
• Have demonstrated teamwork, negotiation, and problem-solving skills
• Have strong verbal and written communication skills coupled with excellent organizational skills.
• Will work on the road 40%+ of the time (mainly driving distance away) on college campuses with some overnight travel (up to 20% total) needed. A quiet, effective home office space is also needed.
• Have working experience with CRM systems and other technology applications needed to work a large list of prospects
• Have a bachelor’s degree (master’s preferred)

Compensation includes competitive base salary + commissions + bonuses.
