The New Press seeks an experienced Sales, Inventory, and Sales Promotion Associate or Manager. This position is responsible for sales reporting and analyses; first print and inventory management; special sales; sales of hurts and remainders; title metadata; E-book conversions; and daily liaising with Publisher’s domestic and international distributors. The manager makes recommendations about and oversees the execution of co-op and other promotions with booksellers and book wholesalers. This position also is responsible for organizing Publisher’s presence at sales conferences, major trade shows, and public book festivals and conferences. This position plays an active role in weekly marketing meetings and liaises with TNP staff, customers, and authors.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Prepare weekly, quarterly, and upon request title and channel sales reports and sales analyses
• Prepare weekly sales budget report
• Oversee special and direct sales: (1) prospect for bulk sales opportunities with organizations affiliated with our authors and title subject matter; manage sales cycle for same; (2) maintain contact and relationships with key repeating special sales customers from season to season; and (3) provide guidance and sales promotion info and materials to Perseus' gift and specialty sales reps
• Oversee remainder sales and hurts sales: analyze inventory, solicit bids, negotiate terms, and manage sales cycle on a quarterly basis
• Liaise with distributor on sales and inventory matters; prepare agenda and minutes for weekly check-in calls
• Title sales goals and pricing: conduct analysis and make recommendations for print laydown goals and pricing on seasonal basis
• UK and Canadian distributors: serve as point-of-contact; manage export shipments; prepare monthly title and inventory reports
• Billings: review and manage monthly distributor invoices
• Order books for in-house use and author events
• Meetings: attend weekly marketing and seasonal launch meetings, pre-sales and sales conferences, and trade shows as requested

• First print runs: conduct analysis and make recommendations to Publisher; research and recommend pricing; convey final print and pricing figures to distributor
• Reprints: conduct weekly stock and sales analyses; recommend reprint quantities based on anticipated demand; convey final figures to distributor
• E-books: Production. Manage workflow with outside vendor
• E-books: Conversions. As requested, conduct conversion cost and sales analysis and recommend backlist titles for conversion
• Production: recommend titles for short print run and print-on-demand technology when appropriate for backlist
Sales Promotion
• Metadata: maintain forthcoming title metadata on seasonal basis; periodically review metadata for backlist titles
• Bookseller and National Accounts Marketing: recommend and oversee preparation of seasonal, title, and category specific promotions; track expenditures
• Co-op: play key role in planning co-op for Amazon, B&N, and major wholesalers; track expenditures
• Participate in generating sales promotion ideas at seasonal launch and marketing meetings
• Coordinate publisher’s presence at major trade shows BEA, Winter Institute and American Library Association Annual Convention; at pre-sales and sales conference; and at public book fairs and conferences. Keep the Publisher’s calendar for events; order booth, books, and staff badges; and track expenses.
• Order galleys and blads for publisher and distributors

Qualifications, Skills and Knowledge Requirements

• College degree
• Minimum of 3+ years’ experience in a similar position
• Strong experience in at least one of the following: inventory management; sales analyses.
• Excellent computer skills, including Excel; finely tuned organizational and multitasking abilities; proficient analytical skills; exceptionally good oral and written communication skills required; ability to work independently; strong team player who enjoys working collaboratively.
