Description
Kobo is working with publishers, authors and agents around the world to create the most dynamic collection of content available. To achieve this goal, we need a passionate leader who can coordinate the activities of our international Content Team and drive our content acquisition and vendor management efforts. Based in either our New York or Toronto office, your job is to articulate and drive a winning content acquisition strategy that encompasses books, newspapers, magazines and more. Reporting to the EVP Content, Sales & Merchandising, you will be responsible for all aspects of content acquisition, publisher and agent relations, and vendor management.

The Skills:
You build, mentor and motivate high-performance teams both in-office and remotely around the world. You welcome the leadership challenge of a decentralized, virtual office spread across countries and time zones and can create and drive a performance-focused, goal-oriented group from a variety of backgrounds and cultures.

You are a hands-on leader who can flip between strategy and details. You can build a project, process, budget, forecast or plan. You mix good instincts with quantitative skills. You thrive in the face of fierce competition and blistering startup pace.
You are a tough, fair, ethical negotiator who gets deals done, but understands that the real work starts after the paper is signed, with the goal of long-lasting, collaborative relationships with vendors and partners. You have deep experience with contracts, agreements, negotiations and account management, with an eye for the missed detail, the unexplored opportunity, the lateral solution.

You are an enthusiastic and skilled communicator, both one-on-one and in front of audiences.

You have a deep knowledge the publishing and book retail community and an address book that reads like an October New York-to-Frankfurt flight passenger list mashed together with the badge claim table at Tools of Change.

You understand eBooks and eReading top-to-bottom: business model, production, value to consumer, pricing models and more. You know what publishers, retailers and customers care about now and you have some strong opinions on what they’ll care about two years from now. And you know that this goes beyond books to magazines, newspapers, manga, and more.

Even More Skills:

- 5-10 years relevant industry experience (sales, business development, vendor management preferred) with direct responsibility for digital initiatives
- Experience outside of the U.S. a plus
- International management a plus
- Minimum BA/BS; Masters a plus
- Travel required
