Penguin Group (USA) is looking for a talented Media Relations Manager to join its Corporate Communications team in an exciting role. This position acts as the point person for the Penguin (USA) press office, interacting with journalists and the media on Penguin news. Work closely with publishers and editors to create news stories, as well as enhance our corporate digital communications strategy. The Media Relations Manager will report directly to the Corporate Communications Senior Vice President.

The Media Relations Manager:
1. Supports the Communications Senior Vice President and Senior Executives in implementing Penguin Group (USA) communications strategy.
2. Builds relationships with key journalists and trade association press officers.
3. Generates news flow by working up story ideas for the company.
4. Liaises with publicity teams throughout the corporation.
5. Writes press releases and award entries.
6. Works closely with communications team and senior executives on high-profile issues.
7. Manages and enhances relationships with a wide range of print and electronic media outlets (including traditional and online media), social networking sites, bloggers, etc.
8. Proactively addresses emerging issues, and monitors current events and market conditions to anticipate responses to the media on a range of publishing issues.
9. Tracks and analyzes bestseller performance of books both in-house and as compared with industry.
10. Assists with the preparation of corporate materials for Pearson including annual report, earnings announcements and annual employee results presentations.
11. Manages two staff members.

Requirements:
• 4 year college degree or higher in public relations, communications, business or related media field, or equivalent work experience
• A minimum of 7 years of experience in a high-profile role involving communications management, media relations, or external communications required; a minimum of 3 years of management experience is preferred
• Demonstrated experience serving corporate executives in time-sensitive, critical situations
• Established contacts and relationships in the media/press community
• Excellent writing, interpersonal, and persuasion skills
• Demonstrated ability to work across teams and in a collaborative environment
• Must be able to work in a fast-paced, rapid response environment and be able to successfully handle multiple tasks on complex topics
• Must have the ability to travel domestically and internationally less than 5% of the year
• Social media knowledge/experience is preferred
