Developmental Studies Center (DSC) is a nonprofit educational publisher that has been creating in-school and after-school programs used in schools and after-school sites across the nation for 25 years. DSCʼs mission is to help schools foster students’ academic, social, ethical, and emotional development. DSC applies research and innovation to create programs that support childhood and adolescent academic development and encourage students’ growth as caring, principled people.

We are seeking a Production Manager to oversee all aspects of the production of DSC’s program and organization-wide materials for traditional print and digital output. The Production Manager is responsible for developing and maintaining production systems and project management processes and managing a production team.

• Develop a solid project management process for delivering content on time and on budget
• Hire, train, and manage an in-house and freelance staff of production artists
• Develop an efficient production workflow that includes the creation and consistent application of composition templates and style sheets, a streamlined conversion of production files to print and digital output, and the accurate backing-out of text from published materials
• Plan, execute, and maintain complex master production schedules
• Oversee the preparation and delivery of all DSC materials for print and digital output to ensure the highest quality and cost-effective products
• Interface with suppliers to ensure continuous improvement and optimal production solutions
• Ensure that production systems remain current with the latest digital trends and technologies
• Develop and maintain systems for managing production and art files
• Provide composition support as needed

• 5–7+ years of print book publishing of large, multi-component programs and project management experience
• Minimum 2 years direct management experience
• Bachelor’s degree in related field
• Demonstrated high degree of proficiency in the CS5 Creative Suite and MS Office programs
• Superior Mac knowledge and skills
• Deep knowledge of the print production process of 1-, 2-, and 4-color publications
• Professional development in book design, typography, file management systems, XML workflow, or other aspects of production preferred
• Proactive, independent, tenacious strong work ethic
• Solid time management, planning, and organizational skills
• Strong social and management skills
• Ability to build collaborative relationships across departments within the organization and outside with suppliers and freelancers
• Commitment to continuous process improvement
