The position of Publicist is responsible for publicity efforts for assigned projects across Disney Publishing Worldwide’s book imprints: Disney-Hyperion, Disney-Jump at the Sun, Disney Press, and Disney Editions.
They will work closely with the publicity director on all publicity strategies, along with execution of media relations plans and author tours and appearances.
•Author Appearances: Arrange author tours across multiple markets as well as author appearances at bookstores in local markets (confirm events, coordinate author’s travel, prepare itinerary). Pitch authors for book fairs and festivals. This includes pitching all appropriate local media outlets in tour and appearance markets, including print, broadcast, radio, and online.
•Publicity Materials: Craft effective, innovative press materials including press releases, author bios, q&a’s, media kits, talking points, and backgrounders
•Media Relationships: Develop and maintain positive relationships with trade and consumer media who cover books and authors. Proactively pitch features editors, producers, book reviewers, and bloggers on Disney Publishing Worldwide’s authors and titles. Handle all mailings and follow-up calls to media for assigned titles.
•Bookseller Relationships: Develop and maintain positive relationships with New York Times reporting bookstore owners event coordinators.
•Publicity Plans: Help develop and execute publicity strategies in an efficient and timely manner.
•Coordinate the social media and online publicity campaigns for assigned titles.
•Manage publicity budget for assigned projects.
•Attend industry related trade shows and events including Book Expo America.
•Handle general administrative tasks including priority mailings and image requests as required.
Minimum of three years' experience in publishing publicity or a related field. Knowledge of children’s books and children’s media preferred.
•Proven media contacts including broadcast, print, and bloggers
•Excellent written and oral communication skills
•Ease and comfort with public speaking and good presentation skills
•Attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple, complex projects simultaneously
•Self-starter capable of working independently
•Familiarity with Word, Excel, Outlook, and Power Point. Knowledge of Cision, Critical Mention, and SAP is a plus.
Bachelor's degree with a focus in Communications or similar field of study
