Requirements: Rowman & Littlefield is looking for two established editors to help build our list of high-quality, innovative college textbooks, professional development titles, and general interest books in the social sciences.
(1) Textbook Editor
The ideal candidate will bring a demonstrated record of acquiring successful upper-level undergraduate texts and an established network of contacts in one or more of the following fields: anthropology, archaeology, communications, geography, political science, or sociology. He or she will possess superior editorial judgment, demonstrated textbook acquisitions and development experience, and an independent and entrepreneurial spirit. Candidates should have 5+ years related publishing experience and outstanding written and verbal communications skills. This position offers significant growth opportunity.
Responsibilities include:
Researching curriculum and teaching trends in relevant subject areas to meet teaching needs, including campus and convention travel
Identifying potential authors, developing proposals, presenting new projects to the editorial board, and negotiating contracts
Commissioning revisions of successful texts on competitive schedules
Working with authors to ensure that manuscripts reach their full potential
Overseeing the publishing process for each title, including coordinating with production, design, marketing, publicity, and sales departments
(2) Anthropology and archaeology Editor (AltaMira Press Division)
The ideal candidate will bring a demonstrated record of acquiring academic and professional books and an established author network in these disciplines. He or she will possess superior editorial judgment, strong knowledge of these disciplines, and an independent and entrepreneurial spirit. Candidates should have 5+ years related publishing experience and outstanding written and verbal communications skills. This position offers significant growth opportunity.
