We are an industry innovator in the field of interactive online homework for higher education and K-12 levels Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics ("STEM") disciplines. The future sees us expanding our product offerings to incorporate eBook and other content and media. To keep up with the creative pace, we recently moved into a larger office in downtown Austin to accommodate staff growth.
Sapling Learning is looking for an experienced and dynamic educator, author, and manager with significant professional content development and production experience to be our Director of Content. The successful candidate has a proven track record of designing and leading the development of highly effective digital curriculum for the higher education and/or high school markets. As the Director of Content, you will manage all aspects of the content development process. You will work to develop and enrich the most effective learning products on the market, integrating best-of-breed interactive STEM online homework, assessment, media, eBook, and other content and media.
The Director of Content is responsible for completing Market Analysis, which includes travel to current clients to gather information.
In this position you will work with various department heads to determine what new products Sapling Learning will create, and determine each products vision for the future.
To bring new products to market, the Director of Content will scope out the various projects, create staffing plans, will hire, train and mentor content authors.
You will provide the overall project management for those products while they are being created and/ or revised.
The Director of Content is responsible for the overall Content development at Sapling Learning. You will supervise and evaluate various Content Product Leads and Content Authors in the STEM, business and economics fields. You will work with users, media developers, artists, instructional designers and software developers to ensure all projected milestones are met and will provide guidance for improvement of existing products.
You will work closely with the Director of Instructional Support and Content Team Leads to manage the enhancement and creation of new content that is needed to improve existing products. You will also work with the Product Marketing group to help plan new software and features required for the new product.
The Director of Content will establish, monitor budgets, project plans and timelines for new products and will regularly report performance to Director of Finance.
Work with the Content Leads, Director of Instructional Support, and Sapling Process Specialist to hire, train, and mentor content author and contract authors.
Required Skills / Knowledge:
Strong Excel/spreadsheet skills required
Strong Access or similar program skills
Proven project management skills
Experience and aptitude using an online homework system
Product marketing experience is preferred.
Experience teaching in Higher Education and/or High School
Experience with project management software is a PLUS
3+ years management/leadership experience with a team of 20 or more
Minimum 2 years project management experience, including budget creation
Minimum 2 years creating original, interactive digital content
3+ years equivalent experience developing professional educational tools for a problem-solving discipline.
Educational Background Required:
Master’s or Ph.D Degree in a problem-solving field of study such as Chemistry, Physics, Engineering, Mathematics, Economics, Instructional Design etc. or 3+ years equivalent experience developing professional educational tools for a problem-solving discipline
