Georgetown University Press (GUP) seeks a creative and motivated Editorial, Design, and Production (EDP) manager to oversee the editorial and design and production processes of books and journals in a variety of print and digital formats. Located in the heart of Georgetown in Washington, DC, GUP publishes 40 new titles annually and several journals in five subject areas: bioethics, international affairs, languages & linguistics, political science, and religion & ethics.


• Manage department that consists of an editorial and production coordinator and student intern.
• Select and work closely with editorial freelancers and vendors of print and digital content.
• Oversee editorial and design and production processes to determine schedules and to ensure high-quality and on-time delivery of all products, including trade titles, digital shorts, language-instruction resources, and monographs.
• Direct department finances, including budget preparation, and ensure that expenditures remain within budget.
• Established workflow and internal processes and keep abreast of new technologies to enhance innovation and efficiency.
• Collaborate with Georgetown Languages division on print and multimedia products.
• Serve as an active contributor to interdepartmental publishing committee and press-wide digital strategy group.


• Minimum of five years’ experience in all areas of scholarly book and journal production, as well as editorial and design management and complex print and multimedia projects.
• Minimum of five years’ supervisory experience with proven track record of hiring, evaluating, motivating, and retaining talented staff.
• Bachelor’s degree or higher.
• Demonstrated ability to create and manage schedules, track multiple projects, and meet budgets.
• Deep knowledge of relevant publishing technologies, including ebook production and XML tagging and applications and content management systems; knowledge of multimedia production desired.
• Excellent verbal, written, communication, and negotiating skills; ability to work collaboratively a must.
• The candidate who accepts the position must be willing to reside in the Washington, DC area.
