The Community Development Manager builds awareness, loyalty, and use of Fortress Press products by engaging and/or gathering vibrant communities and user groups around Fortress Press products through networking, social media, email, and print tactics.


1. The Community Development Manager “shares-out,” as a product evangelizer, information relevant to communities and user groups.

• Shares topical information that drive community awareness, engagement, and loyalty
• Shares other information in relation to the product categories that establish community credibility

2. The Community Development Manager “shares-in,” as community advocate, information relevant to Fortress Press and the product category.

• Shares market intelligence and trends
• Shares community needs and opportunities

3. Connects with and builds relationships within audience networks and among audience leaders.
4. In collaboration with the Sales and Marketing Director, manages the marketing planning process for assigned product properties.
5. Manage messaging across all marketing communications: print, digital, web, social media platforms, etc. to engage end user groups.
6. Develop creative briefs for all marketing tactics, ensuring that tactics are on-brand and will achieve desired outcomes.
7. Establishes positive working relationships with marketing staff, events, and editorial team members.
8. Establishes positive working relationships and partnerships with contributors and established user groups.


A. Reports to: Fortress Press Sales and Marketing Director
B. Internal relationships with: Fortress Press editorial, Fortress Press marketing coordinators, and Production
C. External relationships with: authors, professors, and professional organizations whose interest are aligned with the assigned Fortress Press properties.


The Community Development Manager will demonstrate commitment to the vision and values of Augsburg Fortress and Fortress Press.

Desired education and experience:

The Community Development Manager will possess most or all of the following desired education and experience:

• B.A. degree or higher in marketing, English, theology, biblical studies, Christian history or related field.
• 3-5 years’ experience in social media marketing and/or online community management directed at Academics in colleges, universities, and seminaries preferred.
• An ideal candidate will have experience in Academic publishing preferable in religious publishing.
• Demonstrated ability to develop breakthrough marketing insights and execution.
• Requires strong verbal/written communication skills
• Must be able to thrive in and contribute to a highly collaborative environment
