Rodale Books is seeking an energetic and enthusiastic Communications Assistant to work in our New York Office. We are looking for someone who is passionate about book publishing and has an interest in nonfiction books focused on lifestyle, food, health, fitness, and narrative nonfiction. This individual will be a key member of the team, responsible for providing both administrative and PR-related support to a team of 3-4 members of the Rodale Books Communications Department, and reporting directly to the Senior Director of Communications. The candidate will have excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communications skills; will possess exceptional organizational skills, and an ability to multi-task, meet deadlines, and stay flexible and cool in high pressure situations. This is a unique opportunity to learn about book publishing from the vantage point of a media company that also has a stable of top print and digital brands and see how these work together.

Responsibilities include:

Provide administrative support for the publicity team: coordinate author travel, process author expenses, maintain book inventory & organize book room, update marketing sheets
Work with vendors to create promotional materials
Research and compile media lists
Maintain media database
Compile and distribute weekly clippings and press reports
Write press releases, pitch letters, and other materials.
Coordinate press kits and media mailings
Pitch media outlets
Provide media outlets with requested materials: review copies, pull content from books (recipes, sample chapters, etc)
Assist in prepping T.V. segments (shopping for props, etc)
Monitor award submissions


Bachelors Degree required, preferably in relevant subject area
Superior written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills
Exceptional organizational skills
Ability to multi-task, prioritize, meet deadlines, and work independently
Positive attitude, especially under pressure
Ability to work collaboratively and be a team player
