About Us:

Oyster offers unlimited access to over 200,000 books for $9.95 a month, with new titles added all the time.

We created Oyster to evolve the way people read and to create more of the special moments that only books can offer. From anywhere a mobile device can go—a bustling subway car, a quiet coffee shop, or lost at sea with a Bengal tiger—our mission is to build the best reading experience, one that is both communal and personal, anytime, anywhere.

Hello, is it you we’re looking for?
If you’ve adored The Elements of Style since you were a youngin, if making a joke is as important to you as making a point, and if you appreciate good literary fiction as much as good cereal box writing, then you could be the copywriter we’re looking for.

What you’ll do.
You’ll be working with our team to create copy whenever and wherever words are needed. As a company that’s all about reading, we take this job pretty seriously. Whether it’s writing content for our website or a funny caption for something like this, you are a relentlessly clever wordsmith who feels strongly about the way language works. You also hate words like “literally” and phrases like “plenty of fish in the sea.” Like us, you believe that how you say something matters just as much as what you’re saying, and you’ll help us say the right things the right way across channels.

In particular, that means:

Developing our brand voice and writing in a consistent tone across company copy.
Pitching and executing creative content that could make it into the next edition of this book.
Writing press releases, business announcements, release notes, in-app content, blog posts, reviews of your favorite books on Oyster, and anything else that requires your smart brain and critical eye.
Executing assignments on tight deadlines, all the while communicating your ideas, hangups, or questions to the rest of the group. We are a team, and we work together to make Oyster the best company this side of the moon.
Using exclamation points as if they were water and you, wandering in the desert, only have enough for another week. So, sparingly.
Surveilling spelling, grammar, and quality wherever a word is to be found.

This list describes you:

You have a portfolio that you’re excited to talk about.
You have 3-5 years of experience, preferably with relevant brands and outlets or other establishments that boast a strong track record for writing and creativity.
You care about books and think that a world where people read more (books or your writing) is a better world to live in.
You think it would be cool to work at a company that values their book club as much as their bar.
You have a tireless work ethic and are excited to work with our team of creative, thoughtful people.
All you’ve ever wanted is a MacArthur Genius Grant.
You are even-keeled and display good judgment.
You have thoughtful opinions and aren’t afraid to speak up on behalf of your great ideas.
Must love doges.
