We are currently seeking an Acquisitions Editor specializing in K–12 education to solicit proposals, review manuscripts, negotiate contracts, ensure timely manuscript delivery, and develop content for books that helps meet revenue targets and may be suitable for development into other formats.

The acquisitions editor works across every work group within the association and provides the following functions:
• Negotiates for and acquires book manuscripts to meet revenue targets
• Participates in long-range strategic planning, monitors education and publishing trends, pursues potential authors and topics, solicits content proposals
• Establishes and cultivates supportive relationships with authors and potential authors, manages author relationships
• Evaluates content, synthesizes multiple viewpoints, develops feedback, conceptualizes book projects that will meet educators’ needs, and makes publishing recommendations

A successful candidate will usually have a bachelor’s or master’s degree in journalism, English, or education and 4-6 years of experience in publishing. Experience with a publisher specializing in K-12 education, e-publishing, and multimedia projects is highly desired. Experience in professional development or as a teacher, administrator, or leader is a plus. If you have knowledge of copyright law and publishing processes and procedures, content acquisitions and author management, book conceptualization and development practices, and trends, issues, and customer needs in K-12 education, we invite you to investigate this unique employment opportunity.
