The Girl in 6E
A.R. Torre. Hachette/Redhook, $20 (352p) ISBN 978-0-316-40438-9
Self-published erotica author Torre (Blindfolded Innocence) plunges into cybersex “camming” in this overwrought dishing of homicidal psychosis. The Internet enables Deanna Madden (aka Jessica Reilly) to make a tidy $6.99 per minute—which translates to between $30,000 and $55,000 a month—performing sexual acts alone in live video feeds for websites patronized by the lonely and the depraved. She also broadcasts similar exhibitions four hours per day for 350 private subscribers ($20 per month), who can anonymously bare their sexual secrets and fearlessly fantasize to her. Dreading her own bloodlust, Deanna isolates herself in her scabby apartment for three years until a client’s pedophiliac fantasies threaten a child. Then Deanna reenters the world and swoops to the rescue. Readers should be prepared for superficial psychological analysis, ham-fisted red-herring-laying, and Deanna’s unconvincing redemptive yen for a handy hunky UPS driver. Agent: Maura Kye-Casella, Don Congdon Associates. (July)
