Good Night, Everyone!
Harriet Ziefert. Little Brown and Company, $11.95 (33pp) ISBN 978-0-316-98756-1
In this sequel to I Won't Go to Bed , Harry is still having problems getting to sleep. Last time he kept himself up; this time, his stuffed toys won't let him have a moment's peace. No sooner does the tired boy shut his eyes than the stuffed lamb wakes up the toy monkey, who in turn wakes up the bear, etc. An exasperated Harry hollers, ``Tonight I'm really tired and I want to sleep,'' and patiently separates them around the room (as he had done initially), which successfully quiets them. This sparely worded story will strike a chord with all children who have suspected that toys come alive when their owners' backs are turned. And the playing out of this fantasy may ameliorate any lingering negative feelings about going to bed. The airbrush-enhanced illustrations have a contemporary look that complements the text. Ages 4-8. (Nov.)
