Where Is Fluffy?
Leslie Bulion and Yann Walcker, trans. from the French by Susan Allen Maurin, illus. by Jannie Ho. Auzou (Consortium, dist.), $14.95 (18p) ISBN 978-2-7338-3235-6
Flaps, foil inserts, and tactile elements accent this farmyard mystery, which is let down by an odd translation. Little Bunny%E2%80%99s blue blanket, Fluffy, has gone missing, and several animals lend their assistance in trying to find it. Ho%E2%80%99s round-headed animals show off a range of emotions, from Little Bunny%E2%80%99s evident concern to Pig%E2%80%99s all-around grumpiness. But while the story is written in verse, the rhymes either miss the mark (lost/most, fur/near) or are marred by quote attributions: %E2%80%9CCow munches grass with her nose to the ground./ %E2%80%98No Fluffy, but see this smooth stone that I%E2%80%99ve found?%E2%80%99 says Cow.%E2%80%9D A gentle caper that falls short. Up to age 3. (May)
