Family media company Story Pirates, the creative team behind the award-winning Story Pirates podcast and a series of middle grade books published by Random House Children’s Books, among other projects, has teamed with the publisher for its first-ever virtual book club: The Story Pirates Book Club.

The monthly book club showcases Random House books, authors, and illustrators from a variety of genres and is recommended for kids ages eight and older. At the beginning of each month, registered Book Club members will receive a copy of the selected book and access to two exclusive livestreams held on consecutive Saturdays at 1-2 pm ET/10-11 am PT. During the first session, led by Story Pirates teaching artists, members will be able to interact with other readers from across the country as they participate in activities and games inspired by the book. The second livestream features a masterclass and q&a with the month’s featured author or illustrator. And at the end of each month, kids can submit their own review of the book which Story Pirates may feature on their website and social media. Membership pricing begins at $52 per child for one month, with small bundle discounts available when registering for multiple months.

The Story Pirates Book Club debuted in January with Comedy Book Club selection Mr. Lemoncello’s Very First Game by Chris Grabenstein. For March’s Graphic Novel Book Club title, Witches of Brooklyn by Sophie Escabasse, more than 25 families registered. And according to the Story Pirates team, Club members have been submitting lots of creative work inspired by the books including one reader who made a movie trailer for Mr. Lemoncello’s Very First Game. So far, the Club has announced a lineup that runs through July, with April’s Fantasy Book Club pick Momo Arashima Steals the Sword of the Wind by Misa Sugiura and May’s Mystery Book Club title Chester Keene Cracks the Code by Kekla Magoon up next.
