Time to ‘Heal’

On October 7, author David Barclay Moore made an appearance at the Princeton Children’s Book Festival at the Princeton (N.J.) Public Library to sign copies of his new picture book, Boyogi: How a Wounded Family Learned to Heal, illustrated by Caldecott Honor-winning illustrator Noa Denmon (Candlewick). Butta Bean’s father is different after he returns from war, and the family’s trips to do yoga offer both father and son a safe haven.


In Honor of an Artist

El Progreso Memorial Library in Uvalde, Tex., welcomed author Violet Lemay to discuss her picture book Alithia Ramirez Was an Artist (Michael Sampson Books) on October 12. The book commemorates the life of Alithia Ramirez, a victim of the school shooting that took place at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde last year. A Strong Start

Shanna Miles (l.) kicked off her tour for her debut middle grade novel, The Fall of the House of Tatterly (Union Square Kids), with a launch event at Little Shop of Stories in Decatur, Ga., on October 10. Miles held a conversation with author Mark Oshiro (r.), followed by a book signing.


Characters Come to Life

On October 14, Juana Medina gave a reading and live drawing demonstration of her chapter book Elena Rides (Candlewick) at the Boston Book Festival. The book follows young elephant Elena throughout her journey of learning to ride a bike.

Double the Fun

On October 10, Politics & Prose in Washington, D.C., held an event celebrating the launch of author Anna E. Jordan’s middle grade novel Shira & Esther’s Double Dream Debut (Chronicle). Author Erica S. Perl joined Jordan onstage for a conversation that drew more than 100 guests in-person and more than 400 virtual attendees. Here, Jordan signs copies of her book for a guest.
