    Bookseller and author Joel Fram, founder of beloved pioneering children’s-only shop Eeyore’s Books for Children in Manhattan, died on May 6 at the age of 81.

  • Audiobook Pioneer Barbara Holdridge Dies at 95

    The cofounder of the trailblazing spoken-word label Caedmon Records, which recorded such literary luminaries as T.S. Eliot, William Faulkner, Dylan Thomas, Eudora Welty, and W.B. Yeats, died on June 9 at her home in Baltimore.

  • Theologian Walter Brueggemann Dies at 92

    The esteemed professor emeritus of Old Testament at Columbia Theological Seminary, and the author of more than 100 books on the Hebrew Bible and Christian theology and ethics, died on June 5, just weeks before the release of his next book.

    The Bible study teacher, author, and cofounder of a ministry offering Bible resources worldwide was honored with the Evangelical Christian Publishers Association’s Pinnacle Award in April.

    After working for two corporate publishers, de La Martinière started his own house in 1992. Five years later, he acquired Abrams Books, and in 1998 merged his company with Média-Participations to form one of France's largest book publishers.

    Lerner launched his children’s publishing company in 1959 and built it up over the next 50 years into one of the country’s largest independent publishers of books for young people. He died in Minneapolis on April 8.

    Children’s author Jean Van Leeuwen, known for a broad oeuvre including her beginning-reader stories following the adventures of Oliver Pig, died on March 3 of cancer. She was 87.
