Welcome to our fall 2022 books preview! Putting this feature together is always a massive job, and one we’re lucky to do. We’re also fortunate to have such a talented and dedicated crew of editors working on it. Once again, they did the heavy lifting and I have the burden of writing this brief intro. Which is to say, feel free to skip ahead to the good stuff. It starts on the next page.

Back in March, we invited publishers to submit information on titles publishing between Aug. 1, 2022, and Jan. 31, 2023, and we whittled down the thousands of submissions to what you’ll find here: our selections for the notable books of fall and winter in 15 categories. Each category has a top-10 list and a longlist of picks you’ll want to know about.

As usual, we aren’t just looking for big books by big authors—though, of course, there’s no dearth of those. We’ve also highlighted some dark horses, debuts worth keeping an eye on, and some that seem to have a bit of magic about them. (There’s also a database of all submissions you can peruse at publishersweekly.com/
announcements.)

This fall is shaping up to be a fantastic one on the book front, as you’re about to see. Take a look, and also check this space on July 18 for our fall children’s announcements issue.
