Juliana Barbassa Named Deputy at 'NYT' Books Desk

Juliana Barbassa will be the new deputy for news and features on the New York Times books desk, beginning early this year. Barbassa currently heads up coverage of Latin America for the Times's International desk, which she joined in 2018. She previously worked as senior Rio correspondent for the Associate Press and authored the 2016 book Dancing with the Devil in the City of God: Rio de Janeiro and the Olympic Dream." She succeeds Andrew LaVallee, who was named editor of the paper's Arts & Leisure section in November.
