Author and Journalist Thomas H. Weyr Dies at 94

Author and journalist Thomas H. Weyr died on March 11 at his home in Bronxville, N.Y. He was 94.  

Weyr contributed to such news outlets as ABC, Newsweek, United Press International, the Research Institute of America, and DMNews. He also published such books as Reaching for Paradise: The Playboy Vision of America, a detailed history of Hugh Hefner’s Playboy empire and The Setting of the Pearl: Vienna Under Hitler, a history of Vienna from 1938 through present day. He translated many books into English from French and German and ghost wrote other several books, including Answer to History, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi’s posthumous autobiography published in 1980, and former CIA director William Casey's book, The Secret War Against Hitler.

Weyr was born on September 9, 1927, in Vienna, Austria. Following the annexation of Austria by the Nazis on in 1938, he fled to England with his mother. In 1941, he and his family moved to America to escape the German Blitz of London, settling in Philadelphia. He graduated from Columbia University in 1948.

He is survived by four daughters, Teddie, Garret, Tara, and Sascha; two stepdaughters, Allison and Frances; a stepson, John; and six grandchildren.
