Binc Announces 2022 Scholarship Recipients

The Book Industry Charitable Foundation has announced the winners of its professional development scholarship recipients. A total of $16,250 was awarded to 15 booksellers and comic retailers nationwide.

Alicia Michielli of Talking Leaves Books (N.Y.) Rachel Ford of the Bookshop (Tenn.), and Katya D'Angelo of Bridgeside Books (Vt.) have been awarded George Keating Memorial Scholarships, which provides $250 scholarships to a bookseller in the New Atlantic Independent Booksellers Association (NAIBA), Southern Independent Booksellers Alliance (SIBA), and New England Independent Booksellers Association (NEIBA) for the purpose of professional development. 

Abby Rice of Title IX: A Bookstore (Conn.), Andrea Garcia of Cellar Door Books (Calif.), Charles Hannah of Third Eye Books (Ore.), Sav Fields of Literati Bookstore (Mich.), Veronica Johnson of Libros Bookmobile (Tex.), Krystle Dandridge of the Book Bar (Va.), Rachel Ramirez of Storyhouse Bookpub (Iowa), and Kaila Boulware of Hidden Gems Literary Emporium (N.J.) have received Macmillan Booksellers Professional Development Scholarships, which provide funds to booksellers traditionally underrepresented within the industry to attend their regional associations' fall trade show or gathering. 

Kay Kerimian of Greenlight Bookstore has received the Carla Gray Scholarship for Emerging Bookseller-Activists, which sends an independent bookseller to two bookselling events, ALA's Winter Institute, and a regional fall trade show, as well as provides a monetary grant of $1,000 for a community outreach–oriented project.

Kristen Parraz of Hi De Ho Comics (Calif.) and Stevie Rowe of Vault of Midnight (Mich.) have been awarded the inaugural Diamond Summit Scholarship, which sends two comic retailers to the Diamond Retailer Summit gathering.

Hannah Amorollahi of the Bookworm (Neb.) has been awarded the Denver Publishing Institute scholarship, a collaboration between the Binc Foundation, Sourcebooks, and the Denver Publishing Institute that provides tuition, room and board, and up to $2000 to cover travel and lost wages to attend Denver University’s publishing-focused summer program.
