PEN America, We Need Diverse Books Address Book Removal in Florida Schools

PEN America and We Need Diverse Books have penned a letter, signed by 70 authors, to Duval County Public Schools in Florida over the removal of 176 book titles, all part of the Essential Voices Collection, from classroom libraries in January 2022 for “review."

WNDB CEO Ellen Oh and fellow authors Linda Sue Park and Ami Polonsky also attended the school board meeting in Duval County this week, where they spoke out against the pervasive book bans happening in the Florida district and across the nation.

"Remember you have to protect all the children, especially those who are in the most danger of harm, suicide, and bullying. Right now. In this country,” Ellen Oh told the audience.
