Quarto's John Groton Retires

After a publishing career spanning more than 42 years, 10 of them at Quarto, John Groton has retired from publishing.

Groton's career began at Simon & Schuster in 1980, and included many years at Random House as the head of special markets and v-p of trade sales and client development. He joined Quarto in 2013 as the director of distribution services and specialty markets. Groton was an early advocate of selling books as premiums to such businesses as General Mills, Miller Brewing, and Procter & Gamble.

“To the absolute delight of authors and publishers alike, John has been responsible for the sale of millions of books throughout his career—an astonishing record by any measure,” Quarto said in a statement on Groton's retirement. Andrew Stanley, senior v-p of group sales and marketing at Quarto, added: “He has been an indispensable colleague, mentor, and friend who I wish many years of happy retirement.”
