Kevin R. Amer Appointed Chief Legal Officer of Authors Guild

Kevin R. Amer has been appointed chief legal officer of the Authors Guild.

In his new role, Amer will oversee the guild's copyright-related matters and assume a leadership role in litigation and legislative efforts, with a particular focus on developing guardrails to protect authors in the age of generative AI.

Amer was previously director of the copyright policy team at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and occupied several senior roles at the U.S. Copyright Office. He has also been an adjunct professor at the Antonin Scalia Law School at George Mason University, teaching a course on intellectual property law, and has practiced law at firms including Goldstein & Russell, P.C., and Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP.
