Graywolf Gets an Award for Editorial Excellence

The Center for Fiction in New York City has announced Graywolf Press as the recipient of its 2023 Medal for Editorial Excellence. This award, the Center said, is given each year to “an editor, publisher, or agent who over the course of his or her career has discovered, nurtured, and championed writers of fiction in the U.S.”

The 49-year-old press, headquartered in Minneapolis “is one of the nation’s leading nonprofit publishers, championing outstanding writers at all stages of their careers to ensure that adventurous readers can find underrepresented and diverse voices. The Center recognizes Graywolf’s remarkable editorial taste, and [its] acumen in uplifting authors willing to tell bold, innovative stories and to take stylistic risks.”

This is the first time the Medal has been bestowed upon a press, rather than an individual. Publisher Carmen Giménez, editorial director Ethan Nosowsky, and former publisher Fiona McCrae, who retired in 2022, will receive the award at the Center's annual awards gala on Dec. 5.
