Patricia Engel Wins 2023 John Dos Passos Prize

Novelist and short story writer Patricia Engel is the winner of the 2023 John Dos Passos Prize for Literature. The Dos Passos Prize is awarded annually by Longwood University in Farmville, Va., to "a talented American writer who experiments with form, explores a range of voices and merits further recognition."

Engel is the author of the story collections Vida (2010) and The Faraway World (2023), as well as the novels The Veins of the Ocean (2016) and Infinite Country (2021). She is an associate professor in the Creative Writing program at the University of Miami. 

Previous winners of the Dos Passos Prize include Aleksandar Hemon, Karen Tei Yamashita, Ruth Ozeki, Sherman Alexie, Colson Whitehead, and Percival Everett.
