The 'New Republic' to Host Right to Read Day Event

The New Republic will host an event for Right to Read day on April 8 in partnership with the American Federation of Teachers, Alfred A. Knopf, the American Library Association, the Books & Books Literary Foundation, Macmillan Publishers, and PEN America.

The Right to Read Day celebration, hosted by MSNBC's Katie Phang and held at the Hub in Pinecrest, Fla., will feature discussions with banned and challenged authors, including Lauren Groff, Nikole Hannah-Jones, Ellen Hopkins, George M. Johnson, David Levithan, Ashley Hope Perez, Jodi Picoult, and Jacqueline Woodson. The event will also spotlight the AALA’s Top 10 Most Challenged Books of 2023.

Additionally, the New Republic award the inaugural Toni Morrison Courage Award to five individuals fighting against book bans.
