That Time I Got Drunk and Yeeted a Love Potion at a Werewolf

Kimberly Lemming. Orbit, $18.99 trade paper (288p) ISBN 978-0-316-57031-2

Lemming keeps up her winning blend of cozy fantasy and steamy romance in her fast-paced, standalone second installment to the Mead Mishaps series (after That Time I Got Drunk and Saved a Demon). Cheesemonger Brie Shields goes to throw a drink in the face of the guy harassing her at the bar, but when he ducks in the nick of time, she winds up drenching stranger Felix Monet. Unbeknownst to her, the drink happened to be laced with a love potion and now werewolf pirate Felix is utterly smitten. Felix is certain that, potion or no, Brie would be his true mate, but it may take weeks for the serum to wear off so they can be sure. In the meantime, the two must stick together or the effects of the potion will turn dangerous and put Felix’s life at risk. Enhancing this madcap romance plot is a hint of mystery: village girls keep disappearing and some strange new ghouls have arrived in town. Lemming makes the two story lines work together beautifully with enough worldbuilding to satisfy fantasy fans and enough lust to draw in lovers of monster romance. This is lighthearted escapism at its finest. Agent: Courtney Miller-Callihan, Handspun Literary. (Feb.)
