Which Reminds Me

Tony Randall. Delacorte Press, $17.95 (236pp) ISBN 978-0-385-29785-1

Randall, one of America's wittiest and most endearing supporting actors makes his literary debut with a disappointing dud. A collection of personal and overheard anecdotes about mostly obscure folks from show business (and an uninspired final chapter featuring his decorated drawings of mock headstones, such as ``Heeeeeeeeeere'sJohnny'' for the mighty Carson), this trip down memory lane is filled with a slew of ``you-kind-of-had-to-be-there'' endings, instead of delivered punchlines. Co-written by Mindlin, a show-biz pal of the actor who has worked in publicity and production, this volume of 10-second recollections contains a few brief shining moments, but even those pale in comparison to the brilliant tales that Randall spins when he is in front of a camera on late-night talk shows.
