Elsie and Henry, the star-crossed lovers of Disarm, navigate the first year of married life in this contemporary blend of eroticism and domesticity. Elsie is an up-and-comer at a marketing agency; Henry just graduated from the police academy and is launching his career in the Denver PD. Their happy ending should be secure, but their bond faces a series of tests it might not survive. Henry's work awakens old psychological demons, Elsie's attractive boss wants more than a working relationship, and a tragedy that strikes a few months into the marriage may shatter their hard-won tranquility. Henry reverts to the self-protective secrecy of his military days, and Elsie wonders whether trusting her lifelong love for him was a mistake. As Henry spirals into self-destructive behavior, they communicate anger and fear, as well as love, through sex. Alternating between domestic bliss and possible break-up sometimes flattens the narrative pace, but thought their relationship threatens to crumble, their passion is insatiable.
