Astrosex: What the Stars Say About Our Sexuality

Amina Sutter and Amal Tahir, illus. by Anaïs Peyraud. Sterling Ethos, $17.99 (176p) ISBN 978-1-4549-5081-3

Astrologer Sutter and sex and relationship coach Tahir debut with a well-intentioned if disjointed primer on “deciphering your sexuality through the stars.” The book opens with Sutter’s accessible introduction to common astrological terms and concepts, including basic personality types for each sign, and moves onto Tahir’s broad overview of assorted aspects of sexuality, including consent, the value of decentering orgasms during intercourse, and what makes for a healthy relationship. Later sections attempt to weave the two topics together, detailing sex-related elements of the birth chart, such as the location of Venus (whose “feminine energy” can “unveil how you deploy your love”), and providing astrological compatibility charts. Unfortunately, despite a fruitful premise and an ebullient, inclusive tone, the various elements never quite cohere—the rationale for linking astrology and sexuality is underexplored, and Tahir’s sex-positive outlook is weakened by her dismissal of pornography. This comes up short. Illus. (Jan.)
