A Murder in Mohair: A Black Sheep Knitting Mystery

Anne Canadeo. S&S/Gallery, $15 trade paper (304p) ISBN 978-1-4767-6750-5

The murder of the owner of the Plum Harbor, Mass., movie theater, Jimmy Hubbard, in an apparent robbery kicks off Canadeo’s enchanting eighth knitting mystery (after The Postman Always Purls Twice). Maggie Messina, who anchors the knitting group that gathers at her store, the Black Sheep Knitting Shop, has cut down on her amateur sleuthing to please her detective boyfriend, Lucy Binger; since then, a younger member of the group, who wants her live-in boyfriend to propose marriage, does much of the investigating. Meanwhile, the arrival in Plum Harbor of a psychic, Cassandra Waters, who has brought considerable comfort to the bereaved niece of one of the group’s friends, distracts from Jimmy’s death. A second murder raises the stakes, though as usual the crime solving is secondary to the warm interactions among the Black Sheep knitters. A pair of recipes rounds out this sweet cozy.
