Love to Eat: 75 Easy, Craveworthy Recipes for Healthy, Intuitive Eating

Nicole Keshishian Modic. Ten Speed, $32.50 (272p) ISBN 978-1-984860-62-0

Arguing “you can eat more than just kale to feel good,” Kale Junkie blogger Modic presents a delectable collection of recipes that “f*** the noise, the arbitrary beauty standards, diet culture, calorie counting, macro counting, intermittent fasting, and any other form of restriction that’s unrelated to a food allergy.” After struggling with a decades-long eating disorder, Modic found healing in “eating intuitively” and preparing satisfying dishes inspired by her Armenian heritage (miso-tahini baked oatmeal, stuffed bell pepper dolmas), as well as reimagined classics like oven-baked butternut squash mac’n’cheese, and crackly top brownies. Here, she advises readers on how to find nourishment by cooking unprocessed foods and eating “less-nutritious” foods, such as wheat and white sugar, sparingly. Less junk leads to more flavor, as proven in her sweet potato s’mores cookies, soba noodle salad with crispy baked tofu, and lemon–poppy seed zucchini loaf made with coconut sugar. Alongside the recipes, Modic offers advice for developing a healthier relationship with food (to avoid excessive, inadequate snacking, she suggests prepping and packing lunches for work). Those in search of wholesome eats that satisfy their bellies as well as their emotions will find this to be endlessly inspiring. Agent: Anna Worrall, Gernert Co. (Oct.)
