PreS-Gr 2-Originally published in London by Orchard Books in 2001, this version is bound to be a hit here as well. Juan is baby-sitting his little sister Tolola and trying to get her ready for bed. This energetic and imaginative little girl delays the inevitable with one flight of fancy after another: Thirsty tigers needing strawberry shakes, hungry lions that eat toothbrushes, whales in the bathtub, dancing dogs in pajamas, and hippos in her bed all serve to prolong her parole from sleep. The preternaturally patient big brother plays along with her pretend scenarios until she finally goes to bed. Rubio has once again done a admirable job of capturing the whimsy of the English-language text, but the endearing collage-and-cartoon illustrations take center stage. Young readers will enjoy the parade of imaginary animals in cozy domestic situations and appreciate the humorous details on each page. Recommended for bookstores and public libraries as well as schools. Maria Otero-Boisvert, Criticas
