To Capture Her Heart

Rebecca DeMarino. Revell, $14.99 trade paper (352p) ISBN 978-0-8007-2219-7

DeMarino’s second book in The Southold Chronicles (A Place in His Heart) offers a little-known snapshot of early American history set on 1650s Long Island, New York. The Southold settlement is home to the Horton family, who came from England to escape religious persecution. The English share the land with the Montauk tribe, which has been devastated by a raid by another tribe. Heather Flower, daughter of the grand sachem, is kidnapped from her wedding after watching her new husband die. Dutchman Dirk Van Buren rescues the Montauk princess, who returns home to heal and, perhaps, forge a new relationship with longtime friend Benjamin Horton. But Dirk is always in her thoughts, despite the bad feelings between her English friends and the nearby Dutch settlement. Readers will want to find DeMarino’s first in the series to better understand this tale. Her strong suit is recreating history and relating it to readers. [em]Agency: WordServe Literary Group.
